The founder

Two decades in the market.
Now spent teaching the method.

GreyBoxQuant isn’t a content brand built by marketers. It’s built by someone who has traded, researched and run desks through more than one full market cycle.

Vishal Dalvi — founder of GreyBoxQuant

Vishal Dalvi

Founder, GreyBoxQuant
B.E. MBA CMT — Chartered Market Technician

Vishal started out as a software engineer at Infosys before moving into the markets full time — a background that still shows in how GreyBoxQuant is built: rules first, code second, opinions last.

He went on to become Head of Research at Commtrendz Risk Management Services, running trading and advisory across commodities and currencies, and worked in Anand Rathi’s commodities and FOREX advisory desk. He then founded WavesResearch, an independent research house covering equities, commodities, currencies and global markets, serving institutions, brokers and individual traders.

Today he runs a proprietary algo trading desk in partnership with Amal Parikh at OHM Stock Broker — and built GreyBoxQuant to teach what usually stays inside those desks.

The path here

Sell-side research, independent analysis, then systematic execution.

Infosys Technologies
Software engineer — where the habit of writing rules a machine can follow started.
Commtrendz Risk Management Services
Head of Research, running trading and advisory across commodities and currencies.
Anand Rathi
Commodities & FOREX advisory.
WavesResearch
Founded an independent research house — equities, commodities, currencies and global markets — serving institutions, brokers and individual traders. This was the classical-charting era: Elliott Wave, time cycles, Fibonacci and harmonic patterns.
GreyBoxQuant & a proprietary algo desk
Building systematic trading systems with Amal Parikh at OHM Stock Broker, and teaching the method through GreyBoxQuant.

Method & platform

How he works now

  • Systematic, rule-based strategies
  • Quantitative research and backtesting
  • Algorithmic execution — a live prop desk
  • Risk and position sizing decided by rules, not by feel
  • Indian equities and index derivatives

Media & teaching — earlier years

  • Appeared regularly on CNBC Awaaz for commodities and currency commentary
  • Presented currency forecasts on Dukascopy TV
  • Guest lectures and seminars at MBA and finance colleges

“Markets reward those who combine deep understanding with systematic execution.”

On WavesResearch. Vishal’s earlier research house is no longer an active business — it stands as an archive of published research, technical analysis and media appearances from roughly 2012–2017. The current work lives here, at GreyBoxQuant.
