FAQ

Questions, answered plainly.

Everything people ask before their first session.

What is the GreyBox Trading Lab?

A practice simulator for traders. You sit at a chart that replays candle-by-candle, make real decisions under uncertainty, and get coached on how you decided — position sizing, stops, patience, discipline. Think flight simulator, not tip service.

Is this real money or real market data?

Neither. Every chart in the Lab is synthetic data generated by us, and every trade is simulated with play capital. Nothing you do here places a real order or touches a real broker. The Lab is educational only — it is not investment advice and gives no buy or sell calls on any real security.

Do I need an account? Is it free?

Yes, a free account is needed to enter the Lab — it takes a moment, needs no card, and it is what lets us save your progress, streak and score. The free account includes Module 1 of the curriculum plus unlimited practice sessions in the Arena. Lab Pro unlocks the later modules and the advanced indicators (VWAP, RSI, MACD, ADX).

How do I get in?

Press Enter the Lab, create your free account or log in, and you land in your workspace. From there pick the next lesson on your learning path, or go straight to the Trading Arena to practise freely.

How do I place a trade?

Press BUY or SELL on the trade bar under the chart. In free practice, the Daily Challenge and the first lesson you are in the trade immediately at a sensible default size — then you set your stop. From the sizing lesson onwards the full order ticket opens instead: quantity, stop, target, and the exposure and risk figures, then PLACE. Keyboard: B to buy, S to sell.

How do I set a stop-loss and a target?

Once you are in a trade, the position bar shows SL and TP controls: tap a preset (0.5%, 1% or 2% away for the stop; 1%, 2% or 4% for the target) or type the exact price. When the full order ticket is open you can set both before you enter. TRAIL SL makes the stop follow price in your favour — and it never widens.

What does the Lab mean by exposure and risk?

Order value (exposure) is how much capital the position commands — quantity × price. Risk if stopped is what you actually lose if price hits your stop — quantity × (entry − stop). They are very different numbers, and you size on the second one. A tight stop lets you hold large exposure at small risk; a wide stop risks a lot even on a small position. Both are shown live in the order ticket.

What is “Decision Quality”, and why not just score profit?

Because a lucky win is still a bad trade. Your headline number is a Decision Quality Score that grades your process — did you define risk before entering, size sensibly, respect your stop, avoid revenge entries and overtrading. Win recklessly and the Lab says so; lose with sound process and it tells you to keep going.

What is the Daily Challenge?

One chart, the same for everyone, every day. Clear it to keep your streak and earn bonus XP. It is a way to get a single honest rep in on a busy day.

Is my progress saved? What do I get for signing up?

Yes — with an account the Lab remembers every session. Your Performance page keeps an overview and a full trade journal, plus XP, a daily streak, missions, badges and a weakness heatmap that tells you what to work on next.

Can I use it on a phone?

It works on a phone for reading and light practice, but the Arena is a chart-and-ticket workspace — a laptop or desktop is a much better experience, and that is what we would recommend for real practice.

Which drill should I do first?

If you are not sure, find your trader type first — 23 situations, about five minutes, no charts. It reads how you behave under pressure and points you to the one drill that trains your pattern: the patient-trader mission if you chase moves, the no-revenge mission if a loss carries into your next trade, and so on. If you would rather just start, Module 1 (Risk Management) is the right first stop for everyone.

Does the Lab give trading tips or signals?

No. We never tell you what to buy or sell, and we make no claims about returns. The Lab teaches process on simulated markets. What you do with real money in a real market is your own decision and your own risk.

Best way to learn it is to use it.

Open the Lab, take a lesson, and make some decisions. Free to start, no card required.
